In an operational sense, the point of my critique/commentary of Ellul's Propaganda is to convince leftists that it is okay to engage in propaganda. Some people say "politics is just aesthetics, which is bad." I say "if politics is just aesthetics, then let's learn aesthetics."

I think I'm going to become an anti-Ellulian in the same way I am an anti-Nietzschean. I don't feel that Ellul is as bad a guy as Nietzsche but they share that the thing they describe and are convinced is correct 1) is very wrong and condescending, and 2) is the base assumption of our society

It strikes me that Ellul doesn't ever really look into a particular propaganda campaign to analyze it. This obviously opens me up to the same criticism and I'm not gonna commit to doing that kind of analysis (other things interest me more) but I don't think his analysis would succeed.
