I borrowed the DAMA-DMBOK book via inter-library loan and it's a fascinating look at the business version of data management. I'm in academia where each lab is its own kingdom and I can't imagine doing data management at the scale covered in this book.

(1) In my experience, when data management doesn't happen until the end of a project, about 80% of DM is detective work (what are these values, why is data missing, how do we handle this messy data)? This way of working is tedious, often frustrating, and can lead to lost or misunderstood data.

I submitted the second round of proofs for my book, The Data Management Workbook, and was checking what needed updating on my Amazon Authors page when I discovered that the pre-order is live! I can't believe that this book will be real very soon.

I went to
@nhm.org
this weekend and really enjoyed the PST Art exhibit about the making of museum dioramas. I'm now reading the exhibit book, "Fabricating Wilderness," and it's fantastic. It's such an interesting blend of history, science, and art, describing the 100 years of dioramas at the museum.

I'm spending my afternoon going through proofs of "The Data Management Workbook", which will probably come out in early 2026. This is one of the best times in the book writing process because the hardest work is done and you finally get to see something that looks like a book!
