I'm looking at my achievements for 2025 and laughing at myself because I published a bibliography with @hedgielib.bsky.social of data management books for researchers in May, and promptly made that list out-of-date in December (with the publication of my new book). Good job me.

My family watched the full (correct) version of A Muppet’s Christmas Carol and my kid totally fell asleep during the song “The Love Is Gone.” 🤦🏻‍♀️

I just tested with Windows Narrator and README is read as we'd speak it. I'd assume it's the same for the other standard readers, but not sure.

Question for the #DataSharing community. We use "README" to name dataset documentation files. But that name is not accessible for screen readers or for dyslexic users. Is there a better file name than "README"? Or is that name so short and effective that it's still useful? #A11y #Accessibility

In happy news, I finally finished the handknit cardigan I started at the beginning of 2025. I didn’t swatch (note to self: you know better than to skip swatching), so I had to go back and fix the sleeves. But it’s all good now and I have a chunky, cozy cardigan to wear this winter!

Sometimes when people ask me why I’m wearing a mask I say I’m traveling or have some important thing soon and can’t afford to get sick and miss it and that’s pretty much always true but I think it would be nice if it were more normalized to just say “I don’t want to get sick” and leave it at that

I just realized that I will be teaching the RCR class with "The Research Data Management Workbook" (the first draft, open version of "The Data Management Workbook") on the day of the updated workbook's publication. It's fitting because this is the first class that used the book 2 years ago.

This review was easy to write. Kristin is the OG expert, working to solve research data management issues long before I even knew that term existed. With her newest book, she has really honed in on what researchers need to know to move from theory to real life practices in their work. Check it out!

I just started a Zotero library for the project I’ve been ruminating on for about a year. I’m psyching myself up for putting this idea out into the world.

Sometimes there is nothing better than a walk outside. During my walk just now, I had a major brainwave for this book idea I’ve been considering for the last year. I think the last piece might have just clicked into place.

I’m laid up for two weeks, which means plenty of time to catch up on reading. I just finished three 5-star fiction books and am now digging into “The Digital Accessibility Handbook for Libraries,” which is excellent thus far. If I have to be out of commission, I’m glad I have tea and great books!
