The phrase "evil discarded plastic" just flowed from my typing fingers as I continue writing From Mushrooms to the Moon, my NF book on how fungi inform cutting-edge technology. Is it judgmental to call plastic waste "evil"? Maybe. Will I keep those words in the draft? Also maybe!

My MG nonfiction book on the urban heat island effect has its official title now! BEAT THE HEAT: COOLING OFF CITIES IN A WARMING WORLD is coming Sept. 2027 from Orca Books (w me writing as Alexandra Vivelo)! It's full of kid-friendly science & fun ways we can keep cities cool. 🌞

Used the word "frenemy" in drafting an extremely serious(👀), grown-up nonfiction book and I'm not sorry.

Acceptance just came in for a short story that I'm very excited about! Can't say too much yet, but it's a reprint of one of my favorites among the horror stories I've written. This one's not an easy read, but SO worth it if you can hack it.

One of the most fun parts of working on From Mushrooms to the Moon (Bloomsbury, release date TBA) is finding out and writing about to incredibly cool and diverse things various startup companies are doing with fungi. Making things out of them, using their genes, you name it.

Day 2 of #WisCon and I woke up bright and early to learn about dystopias! @ajvanbelle.bsky.social did a fantastic job moderating panelists @premeemohamed.com, @vanessajae.bsky.social, Valentin D. Ivanov, and J.A. Bowler. I was left writing in the margins of my notebook, I took so many notes!

I just researched & wrote a chapter on the AI overlord dystopian scenario for #ADozenDystopiasAndHowToDodgeThem ...and the Bluesky tone is the one that's in line with the facts. AI is not a super genius. The singularity is not being coy. Our water supply's in danger, but humanity's relevance isn't.
