Israel responsible for two-thirds of record 129 press killings in 2025, says CPJ
Committee to Protect Journalists report says Israel also to blame for 81% of ‘intentionally targeted’ journalist killings * The deadly toll on journalists in the Gaza war A record 129 journalists and media workers were killed in the course of their work in 2025, two-thirds of them by Israeli forces, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ). It was the second consecutive year in which killings of members of the press reached unprecedented levels, and the second year running in which Israel was responsible for roughly two-thirds of the total, the New York-based independent organisation, which documents attacks on journalists worldwide, said in its annual report published on Wednesday. Lawnmowers. Birdsong snatches. Light, neither cold nor toasted golden. Small assertions of blossom in hedgerow. Bony daffodil stretches, tentatively defying a slaughterous future freeze. Momentary buzzing of bee, wasp or perhaps the very earth. Spring suggests, season of sex & agonies, birth & death

"The CRoW access maps... show Open Access areas of England shaded in a yellow wash, dribbled over England like small puddles of piss-all." (p.371) - I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to know more about the history of land ownership and how it still affects us today.

Night falls. Bushes ink themselves upon the darkening blue background. Wind and traffic merge and make a sea. Its shimmering flow surges into violent crescendo, held then disintegrating. And as the waves fall, birds descant above them in shards of melody, sudden bursts of ornament, sweet and piteous

Shameful that the EHRC has no written records of any meetings with trans-led organisations over the last five years when trans rights have been under such assault. Human rights apply to everyone and the EHRC should know full well that its job is to stand up for everyone’s rights. 🏳️⚧️

Sometimes, it's a valid show of love to leave to evade the gauntlet of despair that precedes the end, cause limited damage to be single, better than to be in the weeds of misery, when hope's foliage blooms soon enough only better to have known way back when, before life forced the lesson.

Pain settles deep within and oozes out over time as sweat from the pores, as sighs from the breast, as exhaustion from the soul. Don't sit with it child, let it out, bleed it fast and rough, wail and rage. Don't let it fester.

The Book Bag: Poetic Voices – February 2026
Welcome to the first poetic voice of 2026. February is a special month as I celebrate my birthday AND i get to share work from an incredible poet and man. I first encountered this Poetic Voice sharing his work on the weekly PoemsAbout prompts supplied Broken Spine on Bluesky, finding his poetry smart and accessible and full of wonderful phrasing and incredible language. Then I heard him read at an Open Mic and I was blown away with his performance, he performs with an vigour and gravitas and if you get the chance to hear him read his work, do take it - he often shares his recordings on social media.
