Continuing my dive into classic short films, last night I watched "Film" written by Samuel Beckett, directed by Alan Schneider, and starring the legendary Buster Keaton. It's a meditation on perception/observation and delivers as a fascinating piece of art that warrants repeated future viewings.

Along with her poetry, Forough Farrokhzad directed a documentary called "The House is Black" set in the Bababaghi Hospice leper colony Released in 1963. It is not an easy watch, but it captures the beauty and humanity of the colony's residents while not turning a blind eye to their suffering.

Unsure of what else to do in this moment, I'll keep reading and writing. I recently picked up a copy of Forough Farrokhzad's "Let Us Believe in the Beginning of the Cold Season: Selected Poems" I'm new to her work, but I'm in awe of what I've read so far

For no particular reason, I'm thinking about interesting toponyms this afternoon, such as the Mountain of Smoke in Bahrain, the Chocolate Hills of the Philippines, the Giant's Causeway in Ireland, Blood Falls in Antarctica, and Devil's Ear Spring in Florida. What are some of your favorite examples?

I finished my read through of Ann Carson's wonderful translations of Sappho (If Not, Winter: Fragments of Sappho), and am continuing my trek through The Inferno of Dante as translated by Robert Pinsky.

Reading Sappho, and it led me to the work of the Brygos Painter. It's fascinating to have so many of his works preserved, while so little is actually known of his life (not even his name). It's very much like the missing verses in Sappho's poetry. We're left filling in the blanks.

I'm reading "If Not, Winter: Fragments of Sappho," Anne Carson's 2002 translation of the surviving fragments of Sappho's poetry. The translations are beautiful, and there's something endlessly intriguing about imagining the words that might fill the blank spaces. #poetry #poetrycommunity

Last night, after reading about it in an Ondaatje poem, I watched the 1962 short film La Jetee. I'm not sure I've ever had a viewing experience quite like it. Told almost entirely in still images, it alternates between haunting, bleak, tender, and beautiful.

I spent last night listening to Andrés Segovia, one of my favorite guitarists. It accidentally led me to discover Sharon Isbin, a stunningly brilliant guitarist whose work I wish I'd come across ages ago. This afternoon, I'm listening to her 1990 album Road to the Sun: Estrada Do Sol.
