Slowly chipped away at this for a while with the kids when it released on GameCube Online. Still love it, but this playthrough made me more aware of some of its warts. And I’m not even talking about the Triforce hunt section—I actually really enjoyed that on replay.

Absolutely met then exceeded all expectations. Instantly on the Metroidvania Mount Rushmore, no questions asked. People have talked about the combat, level design, bosses, set pieces…but man, the dialogue in this game is not getting enough love. Phenomenal writing, on top of it all.

Despite hearing how strong of a finish this game had, I somehow did not anticipate just how strong of a finish it would have. Like, Tears of the Kingdom-levels of finale. This game was a delight start-to-finish and only got stronger as it went along. One of the best 3D platformers ever

In Donkey Kong Bananza, Pauline's idle animations evolve over the course of the game as she learns to be more comfortable around DK. In the beginning, she looks around worriedly. After Sublayer 300, she starts ruffling his hair, and after Sublayer 1400, starts tickling him.

I downloaded the game partway through the season and still got there. Under the gun a bit, but I got there.

My thoughts on FFXII are myriad. When it’s good, it’s REALLY good. When it’s bad, it’s REALLY bad. Toward the bottom of my FF ranking but even a lower FF game is still among the best games ever made, so that’s not a huge knock.

This fan game (not a romhack!) is so delightful. Maintains the retro experience of FF1, but fixes some bugs and other unintended mechanics for a really smooth play experience--then adds a bunch of new job classes from future FF lore! Delightful game that I'll probably return to more than once.
