Today my campus organized, as it always does, a public reading of the constitution. Students, faculty, admin, and staff lined up to read a portion into a mic on a small stage outside. For the first time I remember, there were heavily armed/armored cops (incl K-9 teams) present to secure the area.

Jesus fucking Christ. At local far-right protests I regularly see people with long and violent criminal records. Saturday must have been a fucking convention of coke dealers, kiddy fiddlers, and wife-beaters.

A UN commission concludes that Israel is conducting a genocide, holding its leaders - including Netanyahu and Herzog - responsible. It urges nations to stop arms sales, avoid complicity, and hold those responsible accountable. We must immediately stop enabling Israel's crimes.

Well done Ed Davey for calling this out. With the Green party threatening Labour's small but important left wing base, the Lib Dems are targeting the "sensible", middle-of-the-road voter. This is a particularly threatening to Starmer as his only selling point was being the adult in the room.

Deeply disturbed to see today's 'Unite the Kingdom' march in London with 100,000+ attendees. This was likely the largest far-right protest in British history and was led by Tommy Robinson and addressed by Elon Musk. The far right are emboldened like never before. But, here's the good news... 🧵

I find it mind boggling that our entire political class seems to be ignoring this. Musk is the owner of a major media platform that - as we’ve seen - can shape media and political discourse. And the official response seems to be head in the sand.

This statement from Adam Thompson MP correctly calls out harassment of a local charity by the far-right. But Thompson has been silent about the far-right protests in his area and in the statement he buys into the anti-migrant/ close-the-hotels narrative rather than challenging the racists.

Excellent statement. I would add that the police are part of the problem. Repeatedly I am stopped by the police from doing my job because rather than dealing with the people making threats, it is easier to restrict my movements.
