Idk if this is a hot take or not but fuck it: Indie animation should not be about “sticking it to the big corporations”. It should be about helping smaller artists make it to the top It’s the modern day version of Pixar making shorts to help smaller artists get jobs

If I were to guess, speaking as someone who's not an animator, it's because a good bulk of studio-based animated series are comedies. And most of them are pretty safe or rely on stock tropes. That said, I do agree. With need more indie shows that are just completely straight comedies.

What's indie animation's aversion to comedy? Every new indie cartoon is Grimdark; existential horror, drama, dark themes, blah, blah, blee, blah. Why doesn't any indie artist just want to make a comedy? Why don't indie artists like fun?

I'd argue the same goes for platforming indie animation SOLELY to villainize the major studios. I know tons of artists have been burned by them in the past and I get their frustration, but I think going indie seemingly JUST to give them the finger comes off as kinda petty and doomerist.

My stance on whoever is cast in an animated film is the same as it is for any film. I don't care how big or famous they are, as long as they fit the part and give a good performance, then I won't mind. I only mind if they don't fit and are bad.

I don’t see the point in throwing a fit over another remake that’s going to be a hit no matter how much the terminally online complain about it. Besides, I’d rather focus on what I want to see. A new Christopher Nolan film and a new Spider-Man movie are coming out that same month. Focus on that!

As someone who was on the inside of a studio - all of us support each other’s projects!!! There is no animosity or tribalism when the industry is already very small and very tight. The online animation “fan” wars are a total farce and not representative of the true nature of the industry.
