The depth of the shame of a country this wealthy and abundant allowing its people to go hungry is impossible to measure. The fact that a handful of people could fix this by paying their fair share of taxes while still remaining obscenely wealthy makes it even worse.

MPD Chief wasn’t at the community engagement meeting because something else came up. Feels like if the MPD wants to build trust it would be nice to have the decision maker in the room. It’s always someone else’s decision.

Two weeks ago Effective Law Enforcement for All (ELE4A) who are monitoring the consent decree said they couldn’t push MPD to make gun pointing a level 2 use of force. Tonight when MPD was asked about it they said they would have to go back to ELE4A because they have the final say. Which is it?

MPD can’t enforce the new use of force policy until they complete training, but training is delayed because they picked Sgt Hanneman (who killed Amir Locke) and there was such public outcry they had to reassign him.

FYI, I’m now on the Minneapolis Community Commission for Police Oversight. Our purvey is fairly narrow, reviewing policy and serving on review panels, but if you’d want to talk about police reform please reach out.

Listening to the MPD update on their reforms. It would be a lot easier to trust them if they admitted to their missteps and expressed remorse. Euphemistically referring to use of force training being delayed because you had to reassign someone without acknowledging why doesn’t inspire confidence.
