Reclaiming urban spaces from cars, as Paris has done over the last ten years, is climate action - both mitigation (fewer emissions from fewer miles driven and more miles on public/active transit) and adaptation (less asphalt and urban heat island effect, more parks, trees and shade).

Pedestrianizing a main street spine in central Reykjavík was controversial with businesses when it was first done, so they made it a summer pilot. They kept it that way, a pilot, for over a decade, and then went ahead and made it year-round and permanent. No big deal. No controversy. People like it.

Whilst dropped kerbs are appreciated it’s unacceptable to block the pavement like this. Pedestrians, kids, wheelchair and other vulnerable users are having to walk in the very busy road to reach the park. Where is the traffic management? @vogcouncil
