Walking rates are up, according to today's National Travel Survey data - but the government is failing to meet the target of 55% primary school children walking to school. The problem? Streets are not safe for walking.

Pedestrianizing a main street spine in central Reykjavík was controversial with businesses when it was first done, so they made it a summer pilot. They kept it that way, a pilot, for over a decade, and then went ahead and made it year-round and permanent. No big deal. No controversy. People like it.
