We closed Abbeville Road in Clapham to cars for a few hours today and something truly radical and transformative happened. We saw a community grow. People came out to chat, laugh, listen, gossip, eat, drink and share. Just proves that streets are for people not just for cars.

Breaking news! @sportengland.bsky.social's #ActiveLivesSurvey shows that walking for leisure has increased by 6.8%. That's over 3 million adults in England who are walking more! But there’s clearly a need for safer, more pleasant streets, as fewer people are walking for travel. 🚶‍♂️🚶‍♀️

70% of wheelchair users said pavement parking was a regular problem, forcing them into the road. London can ban pavement parking; why can't the rest of the country? There seems to be widespread support for it; for example, 78% of Daily Express readers back a ban. Let's do it.

Why isn’t there better signage for #pedestrians? Some from the station but not to. Let’s warn pedestrians the footway is closed before they cross the road along the length the street. Not great for people using wheelchairs, buggy’s, walking aids, who will need to go back down the street to cross!
