Dubstep pretty much passed me by, think I listened to half of the Burial album once and that was it, but have been cleaning various 12s picked up to flip (mostly UKG etc) and this Aretha-sampling Synkro track is a keeper, and now I think I need to investigate more dubstep

Couple of charity shop 45s from this morning - Tito Rodriguez "Latin Twist" / "Taboo" and Les Chakachas "Twist Twist" / "Baila La Bamba". The Les Chakachas is not great (I recommend their version of "Brigitte Bardot" though) but the Tito Rodriguez version of "Taboo" is excellent

Re: the Rapper's Delight thread and Sylvia Robinson etc, this is my favourite Mickey & Sylvia record, much wilder than most of their output. Good set of photos in the video too, lots of vintage guitar action

A bunch of 1950s/early 60s Chinese 45s and EPs (the red ones are flexis) 🇨🇳 Don't ask me about them though, not cleaned and catalogued them yet! (think a lot are already on Discogs though) Hoping there might be some folk, but expect many will be awful (military band music etc)

Obviously doesn't compare to doo wop and vocal groups (go on Peter Frame, dare you to do The Drifters) but this is still impressive. What happened to Dave Dee? He died a few years ago but surely they could have got a Dave Dee II replacement?

Last night The Pegwells played a tune called "Cluck Old Hen" which I should have known but didn't, but I did immediately recognise the lyrics as being the basis of Tenor Saw's "Golden Hen", which I'd always assumed was a nursery rhyme, possibly Jamaican.

Well this was a great evening, Sabine McCalla was very good as expected and support band The Pegwells (female banjo/guitar old-timey duo) were great fun. Nice little venue in Stoke Newington (The Waiting Room below The Three Crowns) Remaining tour dates are Guildford, Chester and Glasgow I think...

The accuracy of the amber colour on album covers from Impulse! Records is strikingly inconsistent. Makes you wonder what other details they were overlooking when releasing jazz recordings. It has added an air of unease to my listening.
