I wanted to give an update on the Balatro 1.1 release date:

TL;DR is that it will not be coming out in 2025, it is still coming out for sure, and I'm sorry. The new timeline is "it's done when it's done" Please read the blog post for more details

I wrote something small to celebrate an entire decade since my first blog post. So much of my life has changed since then, and I still have so many ideas for more I can do, but it's nice to just sit and reflect on ten years.

I won a $10 steam gift card. Do I get Balatro for PC so I can play multiplayer mods, or are there other low budget, high quality games I should look into? Thinking in the $10-20 range.

Navigation3 1.0.0-alpha07 is out today with fixes around saving state (ensuring that SavedStateHandle works correctly), the ability to customize the predictivePopTransitionSpec based on what edge the gesture started from, plus an infinite recomposition fix.

AI was supposed to make us more efficient. Instead, it’s fragmenting our workflows, bloating our calendars, and burning out high performers. I wrote about the false promise of AI productivity and why we’re actually working harder than ever:

AI promised efficiency. Instead, it’s making us work harder.
AI tools were supposed to free up our time—but they’re increasing our cognitive load and making us less productive. Here’s what’s really happening (and how to use them without burning out).

New pet peeve is when I ask someone a nuanced question and they respond "Here's what GPT said" I already asked GPT, if it had a good answer I wouldn't have asked you! Gonna need to develop social protocols around this

100/10 recommend getting offline and getting into a manual task. Crafting, gardening, woodworking, anything that requires physical interaction. I picked up crochet and when I catch myself doom scrolling I go work on a project and it's a game changer.

We ran a randomized controlled trial to see how much AI coding tools speed up experienced open-source developers. The results surprised us: Developers thought they were 20% faster with AI tools, but they were actually 19% slower when they had access to AI than when they didn't.

Been thinking about how much I hate AI tooling lately, and a random connection I made was that the boomers were right to criticize self checkout lanes. That was the start of "how can replace human interaction under the guise of making things easier" and we've slowly just been ramping that up.

Interfaces are your best friend. Put wrappers around third party code, especially for data requests. It will be an immense help for testing and for changing data sources over time.

It used to be funny to joke about mentions of AI during the I/O keynote because they would be like "oh this thing also has AI" but so far we've watched an entire hour of strictly AI tools. I hate it here.
