The ESCRT machinery mediates repair of damaged lysosomal membranes. But how does it recognise damage? Authors @nature report LASER, a fast-forming protein assembly that detects Ca2+-leakage from sites of lysosomal injury and recruits ESCRTs there.

LASER couples damage sensing to ESCRT assembly for lysosome repair - Nature
ATG8 conjugation on damaged lysosomes triggers rapid assembly of a protein complex containing TFG, which directs lysosomal membrane repair by recruiting ESCRT proteins to sites of damage.

It’s pretty weird to take an extra deep breath because the president didn’t order our military to commit horrific atrocities and to then think “well f*ck, I’m pretty sure my country deserves some serious sanctions and whatnot for what our government is up to”

We’re in an era of back-yardism. Trump’s takeover of Venezuela & maybe Greenland means he can’t logically object to Putin’s desire to take back Ukraine in Russia’s back-yard, or Xi grabbing Taiwan. The US, once the world’s moral super-power, shrinks to policeman for the Americas.
