Predictable result of Starmer declaring that missiles to strike Iran could be launched from British territory. And it only took a few hours too.

The United Kingdom’s Akrotiri air force base in Cyprus has been hit by a drone, the Cyprus Mail has learned. No casualties and only minor damage caused.

Seems like there wasn’t a strike on Cyprus, some media just got confused over this alert. But if the government is sending such an alert so soon after Starmer’s announcement then it’s clear they know they are putting British troops at risk with it. And for what? To aid the aggressor?

I somewhat understand the rational argument for, like, “this war has started and we’re in no position to undo it, so we have to protect our citizens/bases/allies”, but, I mean, for fuck’s sake, we’re gonna be actively aiding the belligerents in this war

And amidst all of it they’re STILL extremising on immigration!

Iran has successfully fired missiles at Israel, which is clear evidence that the British bases in Cyprus are in range. So far Iran has refrained from firing at them. There is surely a concern that this decision by Starmer will make Iran rethink that?

Kind of incredible. I was just sitting down to write about how Starmer should be given credit for keeping us out of this mess when he does this. Unutterably foolish and obsequious. Why in God's name should we have anything to do with this shortsighted madness.

Interesting that the government thinks it's not a provocation to run defense for our allies against Iranian missiles but would think it's a provocation to run defense for our ally against Russian missiles.

I feel like this “war could be over in ten days” is one of those things my grandchildren will be saying to each other as a joke in the 2060s.

There was at least some build up and attempt to justify to the public an invasion of Iraq, even if it was all fabricated. This, as far as the American public will be concerned, has come out of nowhere and for no reason.

Only once since 1900 has a government been in at one election then out at the next (that being Heath winning in 1970 then losing in Feb 1974). Given that Starmer appears adamant he’s not changing course, Labour may well make it twice.
