“Out of touch” isn’t it. A president who gilds the Oval Office in gold, slaps his own name on a cultural institution, tears down the East Wing for his own vanity project, and then tells us the affordability crisis is all in our heads. It’s not out of touch; it’s contempt for the people he governs.

It was reprehensible when people mocked condom usage at the height of the AIDS pandemic. It is just as depraved to mock those wearing masks to reduce the spread of airborne viruses today. Whenever someone takes any kind of step to protect public health, they should be applauded, not mocked.

Along with the racist fake grievance of "apologizing for being white," there's also the fact that a bunch of white folks seem to believe (and/or are willing to suggest) that even acknowledging systemic advantages they get for being white is the equivalent of being "forced to apologize."

The reason this shift will probably never happen is above in the thread: it would require a silent admission by many tenured professors that they were not the best; merely the lucky. They suspect, deep down, they couldn't have made it in adjunct land. Too painful. Easier to hire Harvard again.

The problem! Is that! There are no jobs! For anybody!!!! So then the jobs that do exist hire people who can teach things they *don’t already have someone to teach* which often means things like race, which have been long-term blind spots in these departments! Use your brain!

The job market is vanishingly small, and programs keep cranking out PhDs to apply to jobs that they simply cannot get- and they often spend years warning them that the jobs will not exist! And then the jobless blame race and gender, when the issue is really that they imagined they’d be an exception!

All the centrists who rushed to fondly eulogize Charlie Kirk should have to read Trump's Reiner post every morning before they get out of bed.

This is written with a child’s (lack of) understanding of workers rights, at-will employment, and human dignity. As someone who has argued forever against at-will employment and for workers’ right to dignity, it is dismaying but not surprising to see the worst version of an important argument here
