PSA: Do not hold the doors of a train open. It is your responsibility to be at the platform on time, and be ready for your stop when we get there. Don’t make it everyone else’s problem and delay the train because you couldn’t do one of those two things.

Assuming IBRP is using old CRC work to save the time and money, at this political moment, why can’t we just start from scratch? It’s not like the Trump administration is going to give us any money. We’re blue states. Why not use the few years we have to give us an infinitely better result?

I will forever contend that a lot of our worst freeway traffic in Portland is because we have too many on and offramps too close to each other, and the ramps have awful 60s-80s geometry with no merging space.

the real doom loop is service cuts to our transit system. if you cut frequency on an already infrequent system, it’s going to hurt ridership, which will lead to more cuts and fare hikes, which further hurt ridership. all of that of course adds future liabilities to the rest of the transport system

you ever notice how transit cuts in the biggest city in the state aren’t talked about as a political risk for the governor, despite being vastly worse for transit riders than an unnoticeable gas tax increase is for drivers?

lifting the state mandated cap on the trimet payroll tax should be a top short session priority for every portland legislator

My last hope is that these service cuts scares the state legislature into finding a way to fund transit. I don’t think that’ll happen, state legislators have made it pretty clear they have no interest in doing anything transportation related in the short session, but I have to have some hope.

democratic leaders in the senate acquiesced to republican demands to massively cut transit funding in order to avoid a walkout during the special session this summer and then had to shut down the legislature for a month anyways because of gorsek’s surgery. just a catastrophic failure of leadership

This lays at the feet of the state legislature. This is their fault for not doing the job we elected them to do.

Reminder that there’s a good reason for TriMet’s rule about large wagons not being allowed on trains. Took 3 minutes for a person in a wheelchair to get on my train because some homeless person was taking up the whole ADA section with their can wagon and refused to move.

cataclysmic cuts in transit service across trimet and the entire state of oregon are underway thanks to the failure of the 2025 legislature, and the republican repeal of the band aid transportation funding bill.

To be clear, if you ride transit you probably won’t see or experience any of this on any given day. I spend 8-11 hours a day on these trains so my exposure to it is way higher.

The most depressing thing about my job is constantly witnessing antisocial behavior that negatively affects everyone and knowing that there will never be any consequences for that behavior.

So, like, what are we supposed to do if this bill gets repealed? Just watch our state’s entire transportation system collapse? If the most half assed transportation funding bill can’t stand, then what hope is there of actually fixing things?

I grew up in Texas and left for the PNW the second I turned 18 and could leave. I relate so hard to everything here. That place sucks and I dread every time I have to go back to visit family. So glad my parents also realized how much it sucks and are moving up here so I never have to go back.

Y’know if TriMet ran the green and red lines as a single through-running east side line you could actually free up capacity on the system for 7 1/2 minute headways everywhere.

Kinda mad that Dallas gets a new rail line after I move away yet here in Portland (supposedly a “good transit city”) nothing for over a decade now.
