The bus is a great way to get around NYC and now that you actually know when it is coming you can plan your trip. In live in the congestion zone and you can really tell how much less traffic helps move buses faster. More dedicated bus lanes would help even more.

This is such an important point. PhD students are essentially the cheap labor on which the entire edifice of higher research rests. These foreign students don’t tuition, but they forego several years of lucrative work they could get in the private sector. Many Americans don’t want to do that.

I went through the engineering PhD process here. I can tell you that folks in the US are uninterested in living for 5 years off of ~$25k/year spending 50-60 hrs/week, after they already have a BS. Thats what you have to do to get a PhD. I know many Sai's. They work hard, struggle and pull ahead.
