Reminder that Jeff Bezos took over the Washington Post Editorial Board and turned it into a mouthpiece for pro-corporate, pro-billionaire propaganda. WaPo then laid off hundreds of *real* journalists — including the reporter covering Amazon. Billionaire control of the media is a danger to us all.

It wasn't always this way, but over the last 20 years the "free" press is no longer truly free anymore. The biggest, and formerly most respected, outlets have eschewed much of their journalist integrity are now effectively the "owned" press instead.

The "free press" can only truly be free when it is free of interference from both the government AND the corporate world. Just one isn't enough anymore.

But we ALSO can't build a free press on a constellation of corporate-owned, for-profit media outlets. Their many conflicts-of-interest and owner/shareholder-biases are a huge problem. What we really need is a constellation of non-profit media outlets like The Guardian that can avoid those pitfalls
