This is an excellent development. It's good to have more funding for the mission of an open social web, and helpful to have Dorsey's voice back in the mix. But I am also excited about revolution.social because more public conversations advancing these values and spotlighting solutions is important.

With all the fuss over Bluesky's dropping engagement/etc, my *personal* experience has been very much the opposite FWIW. 1. I track followers & engagement as part of my Dem fundraising efforts; here's my follower counts over time vs. Twitter, Threads, Mastodon & Spoutible (I cross-post on all 5):

I still can't get past the idea that people in America are now supposed to accept that this is a valid form of law enforcement and just assume it's fine when random dudes in groups with face-coverings, no ID, no warrant, & no uniform grab people off the street and force them into unmarked vehicles

Exactly. We need to be talking about the ecosystem of apps being built on open protocols and the number of people on the wider open social graph. It’s much less important now which app you use to post.

Sitting in a panel about the effect of social media on news consumption and the open social web networks haven't been mentioned. It's all Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, X. But any newsroom that *isn't* paying attention to Bluesky and Mastodon is missing a trick.
