There is literally no Western politician alive that I can think of that has incited more hate, bigotry, and violence than Donald Trump. That so many in our public life, in our 'liberal' media, have just memory-holed 10 years of nonstop incitement and abuse from him is shameful.

Charlie Kirk used his free speech to advocate against free speech. He was a hateful bigot. He dedicated his life to making young people hateful bigots. That’s who he was. I’m not applauding his murder. Not happy about it in any way. But we cannot cleanse his hateful legacy because he died.

It is nobody’s responsibility to forget what they’ve seen, a journalist’s least of all, and it’s insidious to imply that anyone else should do so. A group explicitly devoted to punishing professors for opinions voiced outside the classroom is an organization concerned with silencing speech.

It is quite simply dishonest to describe TPUSA as a “free speech” organization and not even mention the “Professor Watchlist,” as NPR just did. Reporting on a crime does not entail adopting the victim’s views.

If I were editing a column about Charlie Kirk’s political genius, I would tell the writer he needed to quote Kirk’s actual political beliefs. If the writer responded that doing so would weaken or distract from his argument, it’d be a pretty good sign that the column was not ready for prime time.
