A mind-breaking muddle of news this morning: Humans going further than ever before in space and a lunatic president openly threatening war crimes at home. The sublime and the degenerate. Hard to keep it all in your head at once.

A few year ago, I was asked to review submissions to the Elon Musk funded XPRIZE, but they told us that they didn’t have a big budget to pay reviewers. I complained on Twitter and the guy in charge somehow saw it and then all the reviewers got paid a few thousand dollars. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Across the country, stories are under attack: books banned, archives erased, and critical funding slashed. Organizations, including Voice of Witness, have had funding terminated by federal agencies.

This is a view looking down on a portion of Saturn's rings. Find the white structures along the edge of the ring, near the top. Now look at their shadows, cast on the rings themselves just below them. Those white structures are giant towers of icy ring particles, some rising more than 2 km.
