Is Studiopolis (a.k.a. Screenmusic/Studio E) the company that’s been dubbing anime into English the longest that’s still around (and dubbing anime)? Their first dub appears to have been Zillion for Streamline in 1990, and they’ve been pretty consistently dubbing ever since.

Not sure I’m entirely in agreement with Mr. Shirow here, but it’s an interesting interview nonetheless.

i grabbed this 2010 NYCC and Anime Festival catalogue at a local fair today. i love looking at stuff like this because it sometimes throws at you ads like this one advertising an older flip phone service for on-demand anime. such an innocent period.

Video Rarities did four volumes, and I own all of them. The first two are pretty common, while Volumes 3 and 4 are much harder to come by. They were initially sold by VR themselves, until Right Stuf started distributing them in the mid-to-late 90s.

Finally, here's all three tapes of Sunrise's infamous adaptation of Starship Troopers; a regular feature showcase at bad anime panels for years. The fact these tapes recycle the same image on every cover is kind of astounding to see even for a Japanese OVA release from the late 1980s.

Far as I can tell, Right Stuf only ever sold a single “public domain” title: the Video Rarities release of Tobor the 8th Man. There’s not a whole bunch of info on these releases, but I believe at the time CPM was acting as their distributor. Also may not have actually been public domain..
