As someone in the industry, I wonder: Did games going up to $70 make things better for devs? Are we seeing a fairer level of compensation and better job security for designers, programmers, artists, etc? Is there data to support pricing games above $60 translates to higher dev salaries?

Fixing tech debt is 500% harder than building a solution from the ground up. Layers of bad tech in a massive stack that you need to change and fix while the system is in use without the whole thing falling over. You also do this often without any documentation as to what the code is supposed to do.

This thread is pretty great! In indie teams, I usually teach something similar, but the Project Director role is generally split between a "Creative Director" and a "Producer". One protects the game vision, and the other ensures the game ships on time and budget.

In Japan there's a set of books of in-depth interviews with game devs: Game Maestros. They had an _incredible_ set of interviewees. Very little is online, and even less translated. I asked @historyofhyrule.bsky.social to help track them down, which she did, and she's even scanned them!

It's been over two weeks and these are still on the eShop. Nintendo hasn't responded to any of our reports of these egregious scams which are using our trademarked game name and purposely tricking Nintendo customers into buying cheap fakes.
