Just two weeks ago I was in "war-ravaged" Portland. I walked from the Japanese Garden at the top of the city down to Powell's, then over the bridge to East Portland where I enjoyed a nice glass of wine at a wine bar. Once a passerby asked me the time. Once someone smiled & nodded at me. That was it.

I dunno, I guess I'm just tired & a few glasses of wine deep, but: Today is 1 year since Helene hit Western NC and my town is still covered in debris & the camaraderie everyone felt in the immediate aftermath is gone. As the climate crisis accelerates, pretty soon everyone will be this tired & sad.
