A new law has just passed that (and I know it's hard to believe) dictates that you have to share the post i've attached. Now look. I was as surprised as you are that they chose this one, but what can I do? I've reposted it myself, just to be on the safe side.

Unsolicited writing advice, no. 430: Read. Read widely. Read what you love, and what you don't. Read what you know, and what you don't yet know. The wider your reading, the better your chance of avoiding the limitations of being influenced by only one author, one genre, one culture, one time.

Just for perspective, a few weeks ago roughly 100,000 turned up for the London Trans+ Pride march. By contrast fewer than 3,000 ACROSS THE WHOLE COUNTRY, have turned up to anti-asylum "protests". Yet we are meant to take the latter as "the voice of the people" and the former as "the minority".

Reading Matters โ Childrenโs Bookย News
Welcome to this roundup of what has been happening in the world of children's books over the last month. Lots of awards news this time! It's always fascinating to compare the different short and longlists and it can be a good way of catching up on some gems you may have missed. As the last month has been a particularly busy one personally I know I will have missed some events that are taking place and I have not included the regular look at reviews either but I do hope that what is included here will be helpful.
