Why do abrupt visual onsets capture our attention? A common assumption is that they are highly salient. Here, we show that this assumption is flawed. Higher physical salience made a distractor easier to ignore, whereas a less salient onset distractor captured attention. doi.org/10.1037/xhp0...

This earworm experience I've been having w/ KAJ's Bara bada Bastu song reminded me of a terrific study by Evans et al. (2024), in which they analyzed people's recordings of earworms collected in everyday settings. Results showed that the pitches of people's earworms are remarkably accurate. (1/2)
