It’s worth noting that for many years doctors refused to wash their hands, not because there was a lack of evidence for it being a life-saving measure, but because it challenged established norms. We are seeing the same regressive phenomenon with masks now.

When you get a vaccine or a medical checkup, we expect the healthcare worker to wash their hands and wear gloves. We should think the same about wearing masks in medical settings. Viruses can spread pre-symptomatically; masks are another effective infection control measure.

Last year while waiting for my Covid vax (masked), I was chatting with a (unmasked) nurse who was also waiting for the shot. Her job? ICU and treating ppl with severe covid. 🫠

My oncologists' office doesn't mask, and they deal in blood cancers. The receptionist wears a cloth (CLOTH!) mask and no one else bothers, including the doctors who are examining vulnerable patients. In fact, I haven't seen a mask in any doctor's office in months.

masking in healthcare settings should be mandatory 100% of the time this is a "wash your hands" level of hygiene. past ignorance is no excuse in 2025.

Even if you aren’t masking anywhere else it still makes sense to wear a mask in medical settings & pharmacies because there’s a greater chance of being close to someone contagious & there are more people who are at higher risk in these places. Masking in these settings both protects you & others.
