This is a great point, and something that didn't occur to me at the time. The sentient bots in Machine Sympathy come with all the downsides of self-awareness too. They got anxiety and depression! They get horny, have addictions! They can experience chronic pain and frustration and sadness about it!

Faron is a longstanding, annoying figure in Kharis’ history. They had a falling out years back, which Kharis doesn’t remember many details about. But Faron has been particularly antagonistic over those years and has yet to get over himself 🙃 (which all comes into play down the road)
