as @rodgeglass.bsky.social noted: ‘From then on Alasdair stopped trying to escape the influence of others in his writing, and, more then merely accepting the notion of subconscious reminiscence, he set about trying to harness all those influences and use them’.

Timeline post 5: 1951 - THE STAR is written. Gray produced his first short story whilst on holiday on Arran and felt it was the first piece he had finished that was of value. Many years later he created a visual version. It was published in 1951 by Collins & was the start of a new style of writing,
