The first episode of My Adventures With Superman season 3 was great. Love this series.

Our new house came with a projector in the basement and the room was wired for a 7.1 speaker setup, but the previous owner took the speakers and receivers. It’s been a while since we had any multi-channel audio setup so we were waiting because there were other things that had priority in the budget.

Finally got my record player hooked up in the new house and had to test it. TRON: Legacy still has one of the best soundtracks ever.

I like seeing all the fake “prop” technology in IKEA stores and today I saw this. I immediately recognized the unit as a TiVo series 2 unit, and looked closer and saw that it was indeed a real unit with the TiVoman peeled off. Weird seeing that instead of a cardboard box as a generic DVR.

Friday is the big ove, but my goal is to get my home office in a workable state by tonight so I can work from the new house starting tomorrow. I’m 80% there but need to finish my desk setup and some networking problems.

Fuck Nate Cavanaugh and Justin Fox and anyone else involved in the cruel way they canceled valid grants and harmed many researchers and their families (including mine). What happened to all the money that was supposed to go to those grants?

I just about lost it in the car tonight when I opened the app for my grocery store to double check that it would still be open when it told me to check out its new AI assistant. I’m sure somebody worked really hard to add this feature nobody outside of some executive wanted, but I’m sick of it.

I’ve been playing with different Linux distros on my old laptop. I’ve been enjoying Bazzite for the game support, but I want to try and see if I can use this for more day to day stuff. Installing ZorinOS now, then I might try more traditional distros like Mint.

Don’t want to get too far ahead of myself, but I have to post about it somewhere. We are now under contract on a house and hope to close mid-March. Lots of stuff to do, but we are so excited and happy it’s happened so fast.

Welp, finally got off my butt this week and began the process to find a house here in NY. The inventory isn’t very high where we want to live, but we have a few months before our apartment lease is up. Crossing fingers that we find something and the process isn’t too frustrating.

So if when talking about the new NFL helmet Transformers and wanting to get one, and my wife casually says I should get them all, she’s not able to get upset that I now have all four, right?

Found out that my 97 year old grandmother passed away in her sleep earlier tonight. We were expecting it, but didn’t know how soon it would be. I’m glad 2025 will soon be over. Hope 2026 is going to be better for everyone than 2025 was.

This year instead of Star Wars, the kiddo wanted to time Back To The Future with midnight. We started it at 10:19 and lightning should hit the clock tower at midnight. We will see.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted here. This is a recent picture I took of a fox that came within 10 feet of us on a hike in Rocky Mountain National Park near Alberta Falls. The photo was taken with my Nikon Z50 and touched up with Lightroom on my phone.

I haven’t had this much fun watching a Memphis Tigers football team in years. Our last few teams have been great, but this team is just so good and does not let up on the gas. We need to run up scores like this and make it clear that we are the best team in the American. #gotigersgo

The other day my wife looked at the pond in the park nearby and exclaimed “why are the Canadian geese still here?!?” Without missing a beat I responded “tariffs.” It took a few seconds for her to recover from the amazing response. Or she was trying to recover from a groan. Either way it’s a win.

Tried the new @plex.tv mobile app yesterday and immediately forced quit on it. What the hell is that? It's too busy. Too many steps to get to my stuff. The old app wasn't perfect, but it was usable.

Did my duty. Hope Crawford pulls through. Lots of people at my voting location.

I feel like it’s been April Fools Day since January 20th because I can’t believe what is happening to this country is actually happening.

Look at this and the red states impacted. It’s going to be interesting watching the fallout of this. Personally, as someone that works for a university that is heavily hit by this, and married to a researcher who’s livelihood is dependent on grant funding I’m still trying to not panic over it.

Partially checked off a bucket list item today when we took a short detour and visited Metropolis, IL. I wish we had more time to spend as it was just a “jump out of the car, take some photos, and get back on the road” stop. As a lifelong Superman fan, this was so cool. I will be back one day.

I don't know what movie they watched. Captain America: Brave New World was a lot of fun, and a thriller that reminded me of Tom Clancy stories. Some great acting between Ford and Mackie. It's up there with Winter Soldier as my favorite MCU movie.

I woke up with a migraine today and after forgetting my ADHD meds and nothing to do, my brain decided it was time to work on organizing and tagging a bunch of audiobooks I got on Humble Bundle years ago. And to find complicated ways to do it. Well, it's halfway done and my brain is satisfied now.

I have no idea about who anyone was in the halftime show, but it was entertaining. The production efforts going into it were amazing.

My current #homelab project is cleaning up the network mess where my fiber comes into the house. Top down is my new Unifi Cloud Gateway Ultra, a TL-SG105E switch, then a TL-SG108PE switch. The other 10" rack I did has 2 mini PCs & another SG108PE. This time I put it together in tinkercad first.

I honestly believe our most powerful position in a toxic time that feeds on cynicism, apathy,& despair is to genuinely care and act for a better world. Cynicism is our enemy. We should check it, incl. on the left. It’s not intellectually superior. It’s the virus they’re trying to infect us with. NO
