PS I did a wedding at the natural history museum a couple weeks ago where the bride walked to the Jurassic Park theme so you KNOW I had to add some dinosaurs to the gig ensemble. I made a fascinator with deep green velvet flocked and coppery brown ferns and hot glued some tiny dinosaur toys onto it.

When students take the time to write a nice note at the end of the course, thanking me for my prompts, my thorough feedback, and that they got something out of the content, learned new things, or grew in their listening skills, I cannot describe how much that means to me.

Ok, I need some folks to help me try to identify a potential source for this mystery tune! I have a contrafacta of it so the words aren't helpful, and other tunes in the collection have often derived from 18th and 19th century hymns and ballads, so this is likely also a pre-existing tune.

I have had wonderful conversations with students in office hours about why I originally had an AI assignment in my course and ended up removing it due to ethical and environmental concerns with its use.

Unbelievable match at our gig today to one another, the ceremony florals, and that unrealistically picturesque blue sky

Ended up going with the LR Baggs Para DI box for my pickup; the moment I plugged in it basically eliminated all bow noise. I didn't have to fiddle much at all with the gain or anything else. I'll play around a bit more to dial in the sound in the different registers, but I am already very happy!

Crowd-sourcing this question everywhere I can right now: Got a piezo pickup for my violin, like the raw sound, but am looking into getting a DI box (active) to have more granular control. I'm looking for good translation of my acoustic sound and want DI to help me smooth out bow noise etc.

What's the silliest or most idiosyncratic pnemonic device you ever came up with to study for something when you were younger that you still remember to this day?

One of my biggest musical disappointments was listening to As It Ever Was, So It Will Be Again by the Decemberists and getting to the song "Long White Veil." I was in my car when it started and I remember thinking "oh my gosh they've finally given me a good song for a wedding."
