Chicago remains a sadly segregated city, by race and income, but since its opening Millennium Park has been a remarkably democratic place. It belongs to everyone and everyone comes there. This family says they made some money so decided to treat their kids. To a visit to a free and public park.

Since 2003 the fountains have displayed the faces of Chicagoans from every neighborhood and background, including many faces that would now get you questioned by ICE.

The Crown Fountain is a wonderful installation in which water from two large columns which show faces of Chicagoans floods a court with an inch of so of water. When it opened, the city was surprised by how many families would come to let their kids splash in it. Including mine.
