This is going to be probably the most abstract, philosophical take I have: "Roleplaying games" are not a kind of toy or a game or theater. They are a form of debate (an actual debate, not a political one). You discuss with other interested parties to reach the truth of a matter bound by rules.

Big one worth its own post: If a host expects a guest to describe diligently what their character is doing and either penalizes any misstep or rewards proper descriptions with non-adjudicated progress, they should be expected to create a full sensory model of the world for the guests to react to.
