Poll after poll shows people care deeply about wildlife and want it protected. Instead, we’ve had months of nature-blaming rhetoric and pushes to sidestep environmental law. This flies in the face not only of what the public wants...but the Government’s own manifesto.

Last night the Government steamrollered its Planning Bill through, slamming the door on vital protections for nature. They said it would be a ‘win-win’ for the economy and nature. But in reality, they’ve pushed nature into last place.

It's terrible, isn't it?? I've not been able to get this out of my thoughts since reading about it. It seems doubly cruel in the case of this female when you read about what happened to her chicks, too. 'Susie's' struggle is over. She did a lot more for the world than the dregs that killed her.

It won't stop until grouse shooting ends. The whole industry thinks it's their birth right to kill everything that poses a threat to grouse. What a very sad place we are in.

And it's not over yet. We call on Peers to reinsert this measure into the Bill when it comes back to them. A future where nature and people thrive together is possible. We just need the Government to listen.

Baroness Freeman withdrew am. 246 on bird-safe glass after the Government said it would look at possible targeted measures for commercial buildings. We'll support her in holding them to this at the Third Reading...and keep fighting for a system that builds nature in, not out.❗️

Last night, Peers voted against Swift bricks: rejecting a simple, proven way to help one of our fastest declining birds recover. ❌ We share @hannahbournetaylor.bsky.social's disappointment & frustration. The vote came late, but with government refusing to back it, its fate was already sealed.
