It is not an extreme position to want to be able to think for yourself, to write by just typing words in, to learn things from other people or to make art with your hands.

I know this is impossible for us discuss in this current moment but... People want to do interesting, thoughtful, creative, day to day work. They want to care for each other, and feel like they are contributing to something bigger. It should be where we start when we think about our communities.

Saw a thoughtful thread about AI, don't want to QT or argue. But. The biggest rage factor with LLMs is the people who, because genAI is transformative for coding, think it's transformative for everything else, because they devalue every other form of work and labor and knowledge.

People can say it’s utopian or dreamy but it’s a fact that you have to believe new things are possible, fundamentally, in order to make them real. You have to make the choice to believe that more than this is possible & not be resigned to this being the way things have to be because it’s not at all.

Sorry to get radical but I don’t think it’s my job or yours to embrace, accept, understand - and certainly not to use - the thing being sold to us as AI. I don’t like any part of it, so I won’t. I’m missing out? Good, that’s what I want. You’re worried about me missing out? That’s fuckin weird, man.
