This is upsetting. Young artists with talent and promise need steady gigs, not to break out as stars overnight but just to stay employed, make progress, and build up work. Similar stuff's happening in other media but there's no future in comics if the market is all superstars all the time—hire Kara!

Speaking of Crash & Troy, this variant was the one Paris Alleyne did. Paris is so fucking awesome. He drew it and colored it himself. Dude is very talented and very nice.

I honestly think the comic colorist community is the most welcoming and helpful corner of comics. I’ve seen the advice handed out in Discords. The amplifying done when Colorist Jams were around. Recommending each other for gigs when they have enough to share. You are better with them on your side.

Man, shoutout colorists. Love y'all to death and appreciate all the time and work you do. Also anyone who says colorists names on covers don't sell books are tripping too because I see Tamra Bonvillain's name and I'm throwing cash.

I sleep 8 hours (7 at night, with an hour nap midday) and take an hour walk in the woods/country each morning, and reserve evenings for family, but I still (happily) work from about 6am to 7pm (excluding nap) every day that I ain't traveling. Long hours and good living ain't mutually exclusive.

It's a very fortunate position to be in to work in comics and make a living. It's true you often have to put in absurd hours at times, especially when you're starting out for little money. After making it where I am, my goal has only ever been to carve back more time to live my life.

I thought I had a longer bit but I guess I don't. It's just really frustrating to see ego-stroking masquerading as advice and "tough love" or whatever being described as the way things are. I edit comics for a living and the last thing I want is anyone doing 16 hour days for me. with peace & love.

This mindset is what leads to so many incredible artists to burn out of comics so quickly. Working yourself to the bone for PENNIES from publishers is not the flex people make it out to be.

Love your team bc we all fuck up and you don’t want to be assed out when it’s you who is struggling

Some things you can’t back track on by saying “folks are gonna read into what you say” Even if you didn’t mean it the way it was taken, as an adult professional SOMETIMES It’s on you to understand how you will be read The answer is to apologize

I feel like Greg is being honest, simultaneously romanticising his own predicament. He's basically spelling out how ridiculously bad it is to work in comics, and what's expected of artists, but dressing it up as a "some people just can't handle the sacrifices". As opposed to saying "this is shit".
