Renowned religious scholar Filip Holm posted a video with the title "taqiyya explained", an important video about clarifying a term that is often the target of racist conspiracy theories. Youtube helpfully auto-translated the title to me as "Langeweile erklärt" ("boredom explained")

When a chatbot gets something wrong, it’s not because it made an error. It’s because on that roll of the dice, it happened to string together a group of words that, when read by a human, represents something false. But it was working entirely as designed. It was supposed to make a sentence & it did.

Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.

I'd say it's about time to get rid of this trope of "society collapses because of decadency". The idea has been authoritarian propaganda at the very least since Caesar talked about brave barbarians in constrast to lazy effeminate Romans.

"Duolingo is still great for beginners" bruh it's addictive while being ineffective, that's the worst combination. It's getting you started with being addicted to Duolingo and *not* learning a language on your own terms and at your own pace. (A pace that *needs* to be faster than Duo's)

Dear Dr. McClellan, People often offer a rebuttal to Christian nationalists, saying they would have hated the real Jesus. They say Jesus was a left-wing radical, liberal, fighting for immigrants and the poor etc. How did people anciently view Jesus, conservative or progressive?
