Academics/Faculty at DIS Study Abroad,Duke Ph.D., ventures in refugee law and migration studies
I am sad for the future of Texas A&M. Some of my most meaningful career experiences were at this institution and my colleagues and their students deserve so much better.

The fact that US law currently permits this is all we need to know about how all nationalisms bend towards fascism. Focus on "foreigners" allows nation-states to outsource responsibility for their many failures. "Foreign states," "foreign gulags," "foreign people," etc.

The H1-B visa thing is, like everything else in the Trump administration, set up to carve up exceptions for friends and punish enemies. It’s the authoritarian thru-line that stitches everything together.

Reminds me of this American Indian prophecy: When the last tree is cut, the last fish is caught, and the last river is polluted; when to breathe the air is sickening, you will realize, too late, that wealth is not in bank accounts and that you can’t eat money

I _think_ this portion of the “restoring history” EO is meant to compel restoration of Confederate monuments. Aside from this being mere guidance, though, I see a snag: how does it “perpetuate a false reconstruction of American history” to remove shrines to people who rebelled against us?

“You are a traitor.” An absurd and insulting thing to say to anyone who posts what Senator Kelly did. And even more insulting since he served as a U.S. Navy captain and a NASA astronaut. Kelly was a combat pilot and flew 39 combat missions during Operation Desert Storm in the Gulf War.

Not only is this crass, it is highly significant. Radosław Sikorski is perhaps the most Atlanticist major politician in Europe. And this is how he is now being publicly treated by US/Musk. They do not want us to be their friends, they do not want us to be their allies.

Zelenskyy's character can be judge more directly by how he treats others and whether you think he's protected his country. From what I've seen, he has treated Americans with respect. His attire is to remind people he's at war, not unlike Churchill wearing a siren suit to the White House in 1942.

Elon says 90% of US aid never reaches communities. He confuses USAID's 90% reliance on intermediaries -- US companies delivering HIV drugs, WFP delivering food aid -- with waste. Comical if not so dangerous.

No, that is not what the Supreme Court ruled. The Supreme Court ruled that the president cannot be criminally prosecuted for official acts. That is a terrible decision, but that is NOT the same thing as saying the President can do anything he wants. The Executive Branch must still follow the law.
