I think it's important to occasionally have a character who can't be saved with the power of friendship. Sometimes the world breaks someone and they no longer have the trust or vulnerability to let themselves be helped. Sometimes people break and they stay broken. It happens.

One tumblr user told me they were angry that gangle expressed any sadness at all about what happened to "her abuser" because that's not how the user would react. Okay? Like...that's not you, not a template for you to project onto. That's a character with their own fictional personality.

The good ending! I admit as a cis guy I’ve struggled about how to approach Jax’s pronouns. I’ve heard mixed things about using a trans person’s correct pronouns if they aren’t out yet - and Jax never got the chance to open up about that. But if Goose refers to Jax as she, that works for me!
