RE that RT.. it’s wild how steam reviews are still so damn important to getting visibility. If you play and like indie games, the most generous and helpful thing you can do is spend an hour popping positive reviews onto anything you like with <500 or so reviews.

i like having villains occasionally do this, not cos it's "actually smart" but cos it's a fun character moment: the villain gets to express their worldview and dreams in their own voice. it lets the villain be charismatic and motivated, which is enjoyable to play and to witness, and pulls you in.

just to be clear: apart from the comparisons to the original game, RETURN TO SILENT HILL is very bad on its own merits. there's a lot of terrible editing, but the worst is the scene where someone delivers a full paragraph of exposition and character motivation in a shot of the back of their head.

i actually think you'll have a better time watching RETURN TO SILENT HILL if you're completely unfamiliar with silent hill 2. it's not that the changes are maddening - i actually think the best parts of the movie where when it struck out on its own some - but because the "callbacks" are DISTRACTING

you put some art you love into it - but the process left it a little tender. for at least a little while, take care of it: clean it often, regularly, maybe more regularly than you normally do. let it breathe, uncovered, maybe more than your self-image normal permits. caress it with lotion. look.

for my money, Homicipher is STILL one of the coolest and most innovative twists on a simple visual novel format that i've played. your progressive translation efforts are a separate, parallel progression track to the "story", and the unexpected ways that the one unfolds the other is REALLY cool.
