One Battle After Another, Civil War, and Eddington are all very good movies that approach contemporary politics in creative, entertaining, and unique ways.

One Battle After Another is the politically thorny sexy. violent, silly, touching crowd-pleaser I didn’t know was possible. And for anybody who isn’t PTA, it wouldn’t be. That is to say, it’s the best film of the year.

Whenever republicans pledge to “own the libs,” you know the greatest self-own of all time is incoming. This one is particularly impressive.

Yes, Warner Bros. absolutely deserves praise for greenlighting One Battle After Another.

Also, while on holiday I rewatched Sinners for the third time and the issues I had previously have become even stronger. It plays very well in a theatre but it suffers greatly from repeat viewings and not getting swept up by the cinema setting. From Dusk Till Dawn easily clears Sinners.

Spinal Tap 2 is fun. Obviously not groundbreaking on the level of the original, but I laughed a decent bit. Worth a watch if you have ~80 minutes to spare

I’ve always felt that Redford’s work as a director has been underrated, even if he’s an Oscar winner. Quiz Show has some really creative blocking in limited settings while still feeling like a fast-paced modern movie.

Robert Redford used his immense fame to shape the entire landscape of independent cinema. He was a true titan.
