If you imagine what happens after the end credits roll in OBSESSION, it becomes one of the bleakest, darkest endings I've seen in a long time. Just brutal, unforgiving, and cruel. If I compared it to anything it would be spoiling, so I'll wait. Give Inde Navarrette the Oscar.

You have a chance to double-feature two amazing horror films this weekend. If you want to thoroughly give yourself the heebie-jeebies, watch HOKUM and OBSESSION. I recommend seeing them in that order, too - after OBSESSION you're going to need a minute. A great movie weekend awaits you if you do.

I could feel the audience in OBSESSION tentatively going, “Am I supposed to be laughing at this?” YES! Curry Barker knows, like the best horror filmmakers do, that comedy and horror are intertwined. The laughs bring your guard down, and then the movie really fucks you up. Goddamn this movie RULES.

This is absolutely the best time to be a horror movie fan. We’re going to look back at 2024-26 (maybe more?) as an era not unlike the 1970s studio system, where filmmakers step up to the plate and call their shots like Babe fucking Ruth. We already got three, maybe four four-star movies this year.

I’m sure smarter people than me have pointed this out, but FIGHT CLUB predicted meme culture morphing into far right radicalism and cultish, incel behavior. Only thing the movie didn’t predict was how the internet made that radicalization so much easier and faster.

FIGHT CLUB is so dated now. That’s not a bad thing, but when it came out we thought we were watching the future. Now it’s almost charmingly naïve.

Vincent D'Onofrio is coming to Comicpalooza, and I don't ordinarily do the autograph thing, but I may for him. I got a WHOLE WIDE WORLD Blu waiting. I adore that movie, and D'Onofrio's performance as Robert E. Howard is flat out incredible.

You have to learn curation, not just for others but yourself. Don't just settle for what's next or what's new. Look for your interests and explore. Then explore outside your interests. Find yourself in art; don't let corporations choose your intake.

Drew has proven this better than pretty much anybody. It's that the parent has to learn how to curate, which means actually being attentive to your kid.

Kids will watch anything. It's all about giving them options and then actually watching things with them. B&W, silent, any genre... they'll try it all. But if you only feed them new Hollywood product, don't be surprised if that's all they crave. It's your fault for only feeding them McDonald's.

There's a quiet, haunting scene in HOKUM that I can't stop thinking about. Reminded me hard of some of the more emotional moments of THE SIXTH SENSE, but it's not built on a twist. It's just naked, raw emotion and it's one of the most powerful scenes I've seen in a while. Adam Scott can roll.

This is - and I do not say this lightly - up there with the BABE and PADDINGTON films in the pantheon of Talking Animal Cinema. Feels like a live-action Aardman joint, and if that makes any sense, you know why that makes it a must-see.

I realize that FIGHT CLUB is a marquee title for Disney/Fox, so they wouldn't give it to a boutique to release, but c'mon. No new special features on the 4K? They could have done 30 minutes on the legacy and impact of the movie. There are hundreds of talking heads who would be happy to participate.
