I love when movies play in my head for hours or even days after I see them. PREDATOR: BADLANDS may be my favorite franchise movie this year. It's so much fun. Monsters, androids, glowy swords, spaceships, and laser guns, and they should serve cereal because it's Saturday morning cartoony as hell.

I get why some people didn't like PREDATOR: BADLANDS. I get it. But

Park Chan-Wook’s films are always richer experiences with second and subsequent viewings. DECISION TO LEAVE is no exception. It’s also much funnier than I remembered (though I’ve often thought his films are funny). I love the shifting perspectives in the cinematography, too. He gets playful with it.

The Jason Isbell show last night was pretty amazing. He played pretty much all the songs I wanted to hear, and some rocking live versions of the acoustic songs from FOXES IN THE SNOW. They sounded great; hoping he’ll release those versions at some point. Damn great show, worth the wait.

Lars Nilsen was one of the earliest programmers at the original Alamo Drafthouse and the creator of Weird Wednesday. His influence on the Austin film scene, and thus the early online film scene, cannot be understated. Lars is OG and fucking legit. One of the smartest people I’ve ever met.

Here @mangiotto.bsky.social puts to words my own feelings about this movie. There are a few scenes that get it right, but they’re surrounded by dull, inane exposition scenes for the proles. Springsteen deserved better, a quieter, subtler film, than this. For a few fleeting moments, we get that film.

Reading some trash about how PARKS AND RECREATION is some left fantasy show, and folks? Speaking as someone who works in government, that show nails the frustration of public service, and has little time for idealists who aren’t willing to pull up their sleeves and work.

It's not false modesty -- he's charismatic as hell and he knows it -- but it's an awareness of the challenge he's taking on, and the responsibility that comes with it. "Help me lift this heavy thing" is simply more truthful than "I've got this." More leaders should try this.

Last RT: I continue to be awed by the way Mamdani performs leadership. He's not doing the "I alone can fix it"/"I'm a maverick" posturing that's defined the last decade-plus; he knows he can't do this job alone, and he's acknowledging it like an adult -- and a member of a community.
