Some good news on the homefront - my daughter got a full-time position at the library after working there part-time for a few years. So she gets insurance, retirement, vacation/sick days... these days that's truly a blessing.

I really loved WICKED FOR GOOD and the best part of seeing it the 2nd time, this time w/my daughter, was how great a time I watched her having with it and with the audience reactions to the movie (there were a few entertaining reactions). I was so glad she had fun and I had a great time with her.

DOGMA: Kevin Smith’s best movie. Linda Fiorentino isn’t great, but all the other performances are, especially Alan Rickman, who elevates every moment he’s onscreen. The script is so earnest and full of ideas that it overcomes a lot. It’s sincere and funny and moving. I love DOGMA unreservedly.

SINNERS, 2nd time: Let us celebrate the movies that take big swings, that have ambitions and heart and fill themselves so much that it runs over and spills glorious art all over us. Give me movies like that, and I’ll die a happy man.

Anyone who knows me knows that I don’t do a lot of horror movies, but damn if I didn’t really like SINNERS. I really enjoyed that one. My favorite sequence is a particular musical sequence about midway through (I won’t go into detail about it. Don’t want to spoil).

Saw DROP today. I actually dug it. It’s not the deepest movie on the planet, but it was a good time (something this director seems to specialize in (he directed HAPPY DEATH DAY and FREAKY)) at a quick hour and 35 minutes. I’m not familiar with either of the leads but I enjoyed them. I recommend it.

I went to see THE MONKEY with my husband. I don’t do a lot of horror (something I told Alan that I’d try to see more of), but I really dug this one….except for the group of kids sitting down the aisle from me who couldn’t shut the hell up. 😠 Otherwise, I had a great time with my man 🥰

Gang, it's a really, really, really good time to be a horror fan. If you love horror - hell, if you just kinda like horror - there's so much out there for you to enjoy in theaters and on streaming. And I come to you from the future: there's more to come (that I am sadly forbidden from sharing!)

When I see political news lately, all it does is piss me off. Yesterday a wise man told me that I need to read/watch it less because it’s just going to drive me nuts. Probably so for the next 4 + years, he may be right. Better to focus on family, friends, & movies anyway (my happy places).

I got to see WICKED today with Alan. Outstanding!! This movie is going to make a billion dollars. Ariana Grande-Butera and Cynthia Erivo put their own spin on these characters. I also want to shout out Jonathan Bailey/Fiyero. He was amazing, too. Thank you for an outstanding Part One to Jon M. Chu!

What disappoints me most about his supporters is that their entire platform is about HURTING others. Taking away rights. Taking away benefits. Taking away a path to citizenship. It’s a platform based on cruelty. They hate their lives and prefer if everyone suffered rather than solving it. Sad.

I’m curious to see if there’s going to be an audience reaction to WICKED being a part one of two. This hasn’t been advertised, so I wonder how many actually know this. Also, little fact: the run time of part one is the length of the entire play. Seems like lots being added for the movie(s) LOL

JUROR #2 deserved better than it got for release (I believe it was 35 theaters). It’s a good movie and I think it would have done ok in wide release. Is it awards worthy? I don’t know about that, but it is definitely an intriguing story.

A REAL PAIN: A beautiful film. Kieran Culkin is phenomenal but I don’t think he gets there without Jesse Eisenberg’s subdued, sad performance. Could have spent hours watching them together. Sometimes you just need to sprinkle the emotion and let the silence tell the story. What a lovely film.

Saw A REAL PAIN with my man tonight. I thought it was wonderful. Both funny sir touching. Outstanding performances by Kieran Culkin and Jesse Eisenberg and impressive directing job by Jesse Eisenberg. I highly recommend this one.

Just saw GLADIATOR II. Not gonna lie, I went in with low expectations (who was asking for a sequel, after all), but damn if I didn’t enjoy it. I thought it was a damn good movie. I had a lot of fun with this one. I would recommend it.
