Perhaps the biggest surprise of making this video is how much I enjoyed Dan Abnett's Earth 2: Society run (especially the final few issues). I hadn't read this until now, but it really feels like the Earth 2 concept really clicked into place, and Abnett set up a fun status quo.

@denizcamp.bsky.social just wrote one of Marvel's very best comics of the year, and it barely features any superheroes or familiar characters. Just excellent storytelling with something important to say.

Reading Ultimates #16 and Ultimate Black Panther #20 back-to-back was a godly experience. Both comics were stellar this week. You can really feel the universe ramping up to something major, and how that affects the different corners of the world is so cool.

I'm currently re-reading the New 52 Earth 2 series, and I forgot just how gorgeous Val Zod's Superman suit is.

Can't get over how good Jorge Jimenez's pencils and Tomeu Morey's colouring are in today's Batman #1. An absolutely stunning issue from cover to cover!

What a weird take for Tom Brevoort to have. The ozone burning plagiarism machine can be fun but you have a duty to the human creative experience. To recognize that the medium you claim to love exists because of artists. You don't have to embrace slop just because its there.

Marvel wasn't seeing a dime from me outside of Ultimates, and it seems that will continue to be the case. "I know this is dangerous, but look how quirky this is 🤪" is a piss poor take from one of your lead editors and shows zero commitment to defend the artists you're working with. Shame and ugly.

So I just stepped out for lunch and now I'm in Gotham City?!

I'll skip over the awful-looking reboots ignoring the Vertigo era & go to the Young Animal version. Plus I've requested the 1st TV season from the library.

No spoilers, but there's a moment in Absolute Batman #11 that made me audibly gasp. It's such a joy to watch @ssnyder1835.bsky.social recontextualise Batman lore in creative and bold new ways, and Clay Mann's art is just stunning - the perfect choice to tell this story.

My final piece of reading for the Doom Patrol video is DC Pride: A Celebration of Rachel Pollack (2024), which features a short story where Coagula is finally resurrected. I don't think she's appeared since this, but I hope the next Doom Patrol series puts her back on the team.

I'm not sure if it'll be the next video I work on (after Doom Patrol), but I have an idea for a future project that I'm very excited to work on.
