One thing I think gets left out of “We had a great game! We never even rolled dice once!” TTRPG debates is that even if I’m not rolling dice, I’m using the character sheet and mechanics to help form my mental model of how my character thinks and acts.

When a video game boss glitches out the first time you fight it, that colours your perspective no matter how many times you do it "correctly".
