Here's a take. There will NEVER be a a "winning" social protocol. If there was it was won a long time ago with email or or sms. In the U.S. at least, we just don't live in a world where we'd all jump on board the same train.

Some ActivityPub activists don't realize all the work going into longform content in ATProto. They seem to want to extend the Note. Is making app.bsky.feed.post extensible better than new lexicons? I don't think the intent of the user is the same at this point, but I could change my mind

1. Blockchain isn't going away just because it was over-hyped. 2. You can't compare that to AI. You may hate AI or believe it's bad for society, but you can't deny its widespread adoption

Yes. I still value @librenews.bsky.social's Readaily for ActivityPub rollups. This is a thing that I think is a key missing piece to both the Mastodon and the Bluesky experience, and it's crazy to me that neither org has built this yet.

Who convinced the world that a community or protocol that had millions of users wasn't big enough? If I were to guess, it was VCs or mainstream media, or both.

Page views as a business model for content is less than 25 years old. Print advertising itself maybe a couple hundred years. If there is value, someone will pay, but the current model has been broken for some time now. AI isn’t killing it, though it may hasten needed change, which is a good thing

My larger point is simply that this is a bad law that impacts both Mastodon and Bluesky (and the wider Fediverse/Atmosphere) and it seems like a reason to work together to fix the law (i.e., with @gargron.mastodon.social.ap.brid.gy) than to use it to take potshots at each other. The law is bad.
