Fixed an issue with quotes in accessibility text that could break the web text editor. We also strip out quote characters in more places (like auto-generated text) to avoid editing problems.

Fixed not being able to re-install the default Sumo theme.

Started including book cover thumbnails in published blog posts, in addition to the Micro.blog timeline. This will be active for new posts now, and older posts whenever Micro.blog rebuilds your site later.

Added a new install option for plug-ins: “Install as preview card”, so you can use a theme’s Open Graph card design without having to switch to that theme.

Released Micro.blog 2.5.4 for Android! This fixes several bugs and layout issues with writing new posts or editing posts.

Added limited support for quote posts available in Mastodon 4.5. See this help page for an overview of Micro.blog interacts with quote posts.

We are aware of and monitoring how slow it has been this weekend to finish rendering Open Graph link preview cards, a feature rolled out last week. Made some optimizations already and will continue to improve it.

Added new link preview card styles. You will start to see our built-in designs as well as custom styles from themes on the Design page.

Released Micro.blog 3.7.2 for Mac, adding new menu item icons for macOS 26 Tahoe.

Improved the mobile layout on the Bookmarks page so that bookmark URL field and buttons don’t take up so much space.

Rolled out more improvements to publishing speed. For blogs that have email newsletters enabled, this will shave a couple seconds off, in addition to other tweaks for all users. Still more to do.

Fixed a recent issue with dark mode sometimes being used on mobile or Mac, or delays showing the correct theme.

Removed phone number as an account setting, and disabled optional SMS code notification when signing in. Any phone numbers that had already been saved will be erased. Try setting up passkeys on the Account page for quick sign-in.

Fixed an issue where some processing (such as filters and newsletters) was skipped when posting from Drummer. (Did you know that Micro.blog can post from an external OPML file of new posts? It can! See this video on YouTube.)

Updated the audio transcripts page to show the first few words of a transcript if there was no blog post title. (Although most episodes should have a title, for the best compatibility with podcast apps.)

Made another small optimization to publishing speed. Also updated some pages in Micro.blog to have a more consistent explanation header and style. And fixed an issue with unclosed comments in blog posts.

Improved the “Search page” plug-in to support multiple keywords, centering the search box, and show loading status if downloading the archive takes too long. You can upgrade to the latest version on the Plug-ins page.

Tweaked some of the spacing in the timeline on the Mac and mobile, just in case you notice something feels subtly different. We may adjust it slightly again, trying to find the right balance.

Fixed a potential error with uploading some photos from the web if Micro.blog can’t read the file format.

Updated Micro.blog for Mac to version 3.7.1 with several bug fixes.

Fixed updating photo thumbnail URLs when changing your domain name.

Improved books search on the web to also search your own books, show which bookshelves a book is in.

Improved the “Reading” notebook so that you can now rename it, for example in another language. It will still retain its special status as the default place for book notes.

Epilogue 2.0 for Android is now available, adding private notes for books you’re reading. You can add your Micro.blog secret key for notes in the Epilogue profile screen.

Fixed double-escaping < and > characters in replies when they are already in code backticks.

Epilogue for iOS has been updated to version 2.0.1, fixing signing in with an email address. Full release notes are on the web here.

Fixed occasional blank podcast transcripts, and now avoiding including a transcript link until the MP3 has been processed.

Released Epilogue 2.0 for iOS, adding private notes for books. For more about using notes with books in Micro.blog, see yesterday’s announcement post.

Added new feature to attach private notes to books you’re reading. This is useful if you want to keep a reading log, but not necessarily want those notes to be published to your blog. Any note can be turned into a blog post draft with the “New Post…” button. See Manton’s post for screenshots.

If you registered a domain name with Micro.blog, you can now unlock the domain so that it’s ready to transfer away. (Look near the bottom of the “View Records” page.) We also improved a few other parts of the UX for domains.

Fixed an issue updating a draft blog post on the web when the photo thumbnails interface is shown. Also added a special way to edit the raw Markdown and HTML: hold down the option key (alt on Windows) when clicking the Edit button.

Added a “New Post…” button on the notes list page, so you can easily create a new blog post draft from a private note. Or you can use the “Share” button to share a link to the private note without copying it to a blog post.

Added the Edit button back on the posts list! Also changed clicking on the text so that even clicking on a link will edit the post. We’re planning to hide the Edit button again in the future, but not yet. Thanks for the feedback about this.

Updated the Preview button on the web to more closely match the Markdown rendering that is used when publishing a blog post. It may take an extra half-second to preview compared to before.

Improved the RSS feed importer (when “Import posts to blog” is selected) to more gracefully handle changing RSS feed items, such as from Letterboxd feeds, without creating duplicates.

Updated the “quick actions” in the search shortcut menu on the web. Press the “/” key to open it. It’s now easier to jump to making a new note, or opening your blog settings, categories, and other pages.

Changed deleting blog posts to copy them to the trash, a new page where you can restore a post that was accidentally deleted. This is in addition to the version history of edits. Trashed posts are fully deleted after 60 days, and you can view and restore a post by clicking “…” → View Trash.

Important note for the Posts page on the web: we’ve removed the Edit button. Now you can click anywhere in the post text to open the edit page. Don’t accidentally click the Delete button! This change helps clean up the layout, and also matches the Notes page.

Typepad import! Micro.blog can now import Typepad export files. Dates, categories, and draft status will be preserved. Click on Posts → “…” → Import. Make sure you to export your Typepad blog before they shut the service down at the end of September.

Added an “x” close button to the publishing status pane on the web, so you can hide it if the pane is floating in the way of other content. If the blog publish hasn’t finished, it will pop back up later when reloading the page.

Fixed a glitch with dark mode in the mobile app. Thanks for your patience while we worked through a couple new issues today.

There was a problem on our servers that handle blog publishing and other background processing, leading to several problems this morning. We’ve fixed this issue and everything should be returning to normal. Very sorry for the downtime.

Fixed notes search on the web for large notebooks with hundreds or thousands of notes.

Updated the “users you aren’t following” list on the web to show active users near the top, but slightly randomized to avoid favoring the same most active user. Added a new “posted this week” stat line to show at a glance how often they are posting, and how many of the posts are photos.

Added multiple signed-in accounts on the web, plus optional passkeys to simplify signing in. There’s a new account switcher in the sidebar. To add a passkey, click on Account and find the link at the bottom of the page.

Added a new checkbox on the Account page that can hide some extra hashtags at the end of a post: “Reduce hashtag clutter”. If you love hashtags, don’t panic, it’s off by default!

Fixed a time zone issue in the latest Mac app. Grab the latest with Micro.blog menu → “Check for Updates”.
