It's a fun idea but I dislike the idea of special casing a handle. It goes against the grain of the rest of the web's affordances imo. Also I like the dot! What a magical typographic element. Makes words webby!

I can envision at least three separate businesses bigger than substack (in terms of actual value created) built on top of
standard.site
each with their own value props. When you go from moats to roads you stop building castles and start building cities and *everybody* gets a whole lot richer.

I think this would be the single highest impact thing bsky could do, over unfurls or longform authoring in app!

Does anyone have any thoughts/writing/posts about feed services publication and resolution mechanism? Like, why route through the did:web services, why not just publish the xrpc endpoint in the service definition record directly? I'm like 80% sure I get it but it's not quite pulling together.

Why is unicity ( same set of keys + values = same tree regardless of order added) an important property of merkle search trees, in the context of atproto?

I'm a protocol nerd, a true believer, and even to me it seemed impossible Navigating the social media environment, politics, technical requirements, building a team to handle it all, required foresight, integrity and more hard work than I imagine I'm so excited for what comes next, thank you Jay!

Unexpected benefit of implementing cover images on leaflet: I now sometimes hit links on bsky and only discover they're published with leaflet after they open and get a surprise hit of woo-i-made-something-people-use dopamine

This gui demo from a decade+ ago is a lil goofy, but I would kill for a giant trackpad I could map regions on to do different things, ideally with little haptic bumps to differentiate them.

trying out niri for a couple days side scrolling uis are interesting, we tried a lot of stuff w/ leaflet before ending up with that for subpages. They work really well on arbitrary screen sizes, and allow for pretty intuitive naviagtion.

what ui affordances could make posts like this better? bsky feed reader inside leaflet so it's easier to find the posts? Better search for finding them? Thread embedder vs individual posts?

Right now the leaflet's what's hot algo takes into account likes on the bluesky post linked to the
standard.site
post. We *could* also take into account likes on *all* bluesky posts that link to the blog post. Thoughts?

now that we have this basic reader stuff working on thing I really want to tackle is to give you more ways to do things to a post. You should be able to excerpt into your common place book, add your own private notes, save to myriad (semble? margin?) collections.

Another reason is that having your subscribes public is great for those you subscribe to! There's lots of really cool discovery and social features that are possible with this! Not to mention just the feedback of knowing people are subscribed to what you put out.

I haven't seen it yet personally but I think y'all are wrong on hating on the Post box on the top of feeds. It's not likely to make people post *less* and anything that gets folks to post more on the margins is a win. It disappears once you scroll so it's not permanent clutter either!
