Okay, for my trip to Japan I had the silly idea to try going to every station on a single train line. I picked the Abukuma Kyūkō line entirely arbitrarily, and now I'm here in Fukushima to start. The goal is to take a photo outside every station.

Yesterday my partner and I counted all the ads along Chicago's Brown Line for "Friend," a company selling an AI chatbot pendant, and tallied how many of those ads were defaced. Still working on a longer piece on this, but here's the quick and dirty: we counted 104 "Friend" ads total, 42 defaced.

I feel like we undervalue—well, probably not *hate,* which is having its moment in the sun in global politics—but *haterism* as a project. Haterism is the only tool available to people who want to engage seriously with “AI.” There is no compromise path. We can submit, or we can be haters.

I considered writing a long carefully constructed argument laying out the harms and limitations of AI, but instead I wrote about being a hater. Only humans can be haters.

I am an AI hater. This is considered rude, but I do not care, because I am a hater.

Something I'm finding super interesting about Tokyo is that the balance of technology to people seems very different. Sure a lot of restaurants have you order food with a machine, but everywhere you go there's a guy in a cute little uniform who's job it is to direct traffic or something.

Spoilers for Silksong Finally getting to the Citadel and seeing that it’s such a capitalistic hellhole that you have to pay to rent each use of a bench is a good use of narrative through game design

It's all holistic: Hornet's whole gameplay loop is much, much more aggressive in both directions. More enemies do 2 damage, but she heals 3 in the time it takes the Knight to heal 1.

Really the problem with the Silksong economy is that it's too easy to optimise the fun out of it. Just pick a bench with enemies in the next room and farm them until you have enough for whatever you want.

Gonna start a list of evidence that the cost of generative AI is too high for any uses it might have. As I find articles I'll post them as a reply to this thread.

This fantastic poster for Dracula: 2004 was designed by Victor Jackson. Love vampires? Love 90s and 00s classics like The Mummy and Buffy the Vampire Slayer? Then you're going to love Dracula: 2004, a Y2K audio drama that takes Bram Stoker's famous gothic novel Dracula and works in some emo magic.

People would rather use LLM black boxes to unpredictably unreliably spew boilerplate than design cleanly expressive programming languages which do not require such boilerplate.
